Serving The Homeless In Orange County

Rockabilly For Christ was started back in January of 2006 in Orange County as a Christian Outreach Evangelistic band to play music to people who do not know Jesus.  We then began to support The Red Wagon Ministry with our Evangelistic music on Monday nights playing to the Homeless.

Unlike other ministries that offer free food to the homeless, the Red Wagon Ministry actually gives a Bible message every Monday night before the food is served.  The reason this is so important is because if you offer someone some free food one day and then the next day they die without knowing Jesus, where is their soul?  We believe that Jesus would rather have all Christians give the poor people His Word first and then the food second.  In this way, each and every person is being given the chance to receive Jesus into their hearts before they leave this earth.

After the message is given and an alter call is offered to everyone, the food is served and we begin to play our Evangelistic songs.  We are actually ministering to everyone who is there.  Our mission is to lead others to Jesus through our upbeat rockabilly Christian music.

There are roughly
30,000 Homeless in Orange County as of July 2006.  Some people may think that the Homeless are all just a group of drug addicts, mentally ill people or alcoholics but this is just not the case.  In fact, many of the Homeless are living on the streets or in their cars as they lost their jobs due to one reason or another and could not pay the rent or mortgage.

There are no pictures of any Homeless on our website as these people have their dignity just like you and I.  It would also be an invasion of their privacy if we would post a picture.  The homeless would prefer not to have others looking at them on a website.  Nobody that is living on the street wants their past or present to be displayed on a website that displays their troubles.  Most of these people have hit rock bottom.  Some of these beautiful people lost their jobs and lost everything.  Some have become addicted to drugs and have lost all senses of any direction.  Some have just gotten out of jail and are trying to start a new life.  These are the same type of people that Jesus came to save.

Serving and helping these people try to find their way is what Jesus would like everyone to do.  In the Bible, the rich people would ridicule Jesus for associating with these same kinds of people when He lived on this earth.

How many people today are able to help a homeless person but are just not willing to because they are afraid of them or that they just look down at them?  You don't have to give these people any money.  All they really want is a little respect and a little love.  Just one kind word to these people goes along way and can give them a sense of hope and well being.  We have a couple of people on our ministry team that use to be homeless.  Now these people have jobs, a roof over their heads and are productive in our society.  A few kind words and an open heart for these people goes a long way.  Please don't despise them, just remember that some of these people use to be CEO's, business men, construction workers etc.

We pray that God's Holy Spirit uses everyone in this ministry to help these people and to guide them in the right direction that is in accordance with God's will for each and everyone of them.  Our ultimate wish is that each and everyone of them hears the voice of God and then they turn to Jesus Christ as their Savior and Jesus leads them off of the streets and back onto His path for whatever God wants these people to do with their lives.

You can meet the ministry teams as we witness to the Homeless on Monday Nights at the Santa Ana Civic Center from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  We preach the Gospel starting around 7:15 pm in English.  At 7:30 pm we preach a second message in Spanish that concludes around 7:45 pm.  We then serve the food and begin playing music while the homeless are eating.  At around 8:15 pm after everyone has been served their food, we then form a prayer circle and pray for those in need.  At 8:30 pm, we load everything back up and head back to the Fellowship Hall kitchen in Costa Mesa.

There are four teams that you can volunteer for in the Red Wagon Ministry that serve the Homeless in Santa Ana.

TEAM-1 is the Red Wagon Kitchen Crew.
They meet in the Fellowship Hall kitchen every Monday afternoon from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm to prepare the food.

TEAM-2 is the Red Wagon Food Transportation Crew.
They meet outside the Fellowship Hall kitchen from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm to load the food and tables into the truck to take over to the Santa Ana Civic Center.  We all so gather together and pray before leaving.

TEAM-3 is the Red Wagon Food Servers.
They meet at the Santa Ana Civic Center around 7:30 pm to help serve the food to the Homeless from 7:30 pm to
8:00 pm after the Gospel Message is given in both English and Spanish.

TEAM-4 is the Red Wagon Clean Up Crew.
This team meets back at the Fellowship Hall Kitchen from 9:00 pm to 9:45 pm to help clean up.
